UUM ONLINE 27 November 2018: The rating of UUM Journal of Legal Studies (UUMJLS) in the SCOPUS index has had a huge impact on Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) in positioning the University on the international front.
Alor Setar High Court Judge, Dato' Ghazali Cha who read the speech by the Chief Justice in which the Chief Justice expressed his elation on the success of UUMJLS being named the country's first law journal to attain the SCOPUS index .According to him, he had been following UUM's progress closely and had seen a lot of achievements made by UUM which were comparable to both local and international universities, thereby proving UUM’s commitment in becoming a world-renowned university, especially in the field of management.
"Undoubtedly, academic writing and publication are indicators for this achievement and UUMJLS rating as SCOPUS's indexed journal has had a big impact on UUM and the School of Law (SOL), especially in positioning this institution at an international level. "The role of law as an important mechanism for planning human civilization needs to be immortalized in scientific writing in accordance with time circulation, thus the effort, support and initiative in the form of writing and publication are significant," he said at the Launching of the UUM Journal of Legal Studies (UUMJLS) at EDC Hotel & Resorts, this morning.
He also expressed hope that all academicians would benefit from UUMJLS as a reference material and become intermediaries to disseminate research findings or knowledge to all levels of society whether in the country or abroad. According to him, through quality writing, it would also educate the public on the importance of the law, rights and responsibilities, accountabilities and liabilities in their daily lives.Meanwhile, Director of UUM Press, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ram Al Jaffri Saad who delivered the Vice-Chancellor’s speech enlightened attendees on the fact that UUMJLS's success in becoming the first legal journal in Malaysia to be listed in the SCOPUS index and evaluated by Malaysian Citation Index (MyCite) in 2016.
According to him, UUMJLS was published by SOL in 2010 before it was submitted to UUM Press in 2016 for the purpose of improving the quality of management and publication. "UUM needs to remain firm in implementing its vision of creating a holistic and dynamic human capital, in fact I hope UUM will continue to make its name in the world by devoting itself to the philosophy embodied in the University's motto, Knowledge, Virtue, Service," he said. At the same event, the Palu, Sulawesi and Lombok, Indonesia Disaster Fund mock cheque amounting MYR5,000 was handed over to representatives of the Malaysian Consultative Council for Islamic Organization (MAPIM).
